Look Lateral, a Seattle-based company, announces its first sale of a tokenized artwork on the blockchain. The work sold is a small canvas by the master Alighiero Boetti, created between 1973 and 1974, entitled Ordine e Disordine and was tokenized and sold by the collector and well-known Florentine gallerist Michele Casamonti for the total sum of 135 thousand euros.
The amount was divided into one hundred thousand digital tokens (co-ownership asset tokens), which represent fractions of the ownership of the work.
The sale was a success, beyond all the most optimistic forecasts, as the tokens sold out in just over a week.
The blockchain technology used by Look Lateral and DEXX is among the strengths of the project, because also thanks to the Dragonchain patents it has been designed and built to measure and in a hybrid way (public/private) to meet the specific needs of each player and make the user experience completely similar to what it would have on a traditional exchange or marketplace, but with all the advantages in terms of security, traceability and transparency of the blockchain.
Look Lateral, a US-based parent company that holds technology and know-how, conducted the “pilot” operation together with the Swiss subsidiary LL DEXX, which manages the exchange through the dexx.finance platform, a blockchain-based digital exchange of tokens, as well as through the Italian subsidiary Fimart, in charge of collecting and evaluating the best assets to be tokenized in the art market.
The operation is part of a larger project, with which Look Lateral aims to be the first to intercept the enormous mass of capital that is gradually moving from the traditional market to that of tokenizable assets.
However, the flagship of this legal and financial technological infrastructure are the sophisticated and innovative systems of liquidity pools, automated market makers.
The short-term goal is, among others, to interface with traditional home banking systems
The company has an ambitious program which will lead to expanding the range of assets and obtaining authorizations to carry out active marketing within the EU, launching products which, unlike the current one, also have a financial nature such as shares in investment funds, shares , bonds and other financial assets. The road has already been identified and will lead, within a few months, to the establishment of another entity based in Luxembourg, home to countless investment funds and an ideal destination for the concrete ambitions of the Look Lateral group.
The project, launched in 2017, is also based on a first-rate team which, in addition to legal advisors chosen from the main global law firms, such as Lexia, CMS Luxembourg, Lexify, Bergs&More and Withers.
Look Lateral has already raised funding for over 4 million dollars and now, after this first highly successful “soft go to market”, albeit conducted quietly and without advertising, it is preparing to open the capital again for a new round of investment from $12 million, with a pre-money valuation of the company at $35 million.
Among the partners of the initiative we also find Piers Heaton Armstrong, Global VP Marketing for Amazon.com and Colombo & Partners, a Milanese boutique firm focused on alternative investments and leader in its sector.
